Tideline Tours has a mission to share our passion of the outdoors, specifically the salt marsh ecosystem we call home, with others. Do you love nature, working outside, interacting with others, education, and being on the water? 

If so please read on to learn more about what we have to offer.  Come work in a fast paced but relaxing environment – the views can’t be beat!  We are a close knit team and regularly work together and support each other.  Many of the crew cross over into other roles- some captains love leading the occasional kayak tour, and some office staff can be found lending a hand on a large dinner excursion! All staff has the option to get involved with kids programming. 

Perks of the job include using kayak gear when it’s available, jumping on the boat with a friend if seats are open, assistance with safety certifications, and continuing education opportunities as they arise.

Part Time Captain / Naturalist

We are looking for a full time captain to join our team.  Our company specializes in outdoor education although we offer a wide range of tour options and the ideal candidate will have experience (or willingness to learn!) across multiple tour types.  We are looking for someone who is comfortable leading ecotours in the salt marsh for both adults and children.  Background in biology and past experience working with school groups is a plus. Tours last from 1.5 -3 hours; prep/cleanup work is required.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Participate in training prior to your first solo tour
  • Display excellent customer-service skills when working with guests
  • Safely operate and navigate vessels for eco-tours and charters.
  • Provide engaging, educational commentary about the local wildlife, marine ecosystems, and local history.
  • Ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all passengers.
  • Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections of the vessel.
  • Perform daily maintenance like refueling, cleaning, and other light maintenance tasks. Communicate larger maintenance needs promptly and assist as needed.
  • Comply with all U.S. Coast Guard regulations and company safety protocols.
 

Required Qualifications:

  • Active Masters USCG license required.
  • CPR/First Aid/Lifeguard certification (we will provide recertification if necessary).
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs and perform physical tasks associated with boat operations.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and humidity
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends.
  • Experience with public speaking.
  • Excellent customer service and people skills.
  • Must be reliable, professional, and able to remain calm and adaptable in stressful circumstances.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preference will be given to candidates who have experience with trailering, boat maintenance, and working with children.
  • Knowledge of local waterways, wildlife, and environmental issues is highly preferred (education or hands-on work experience).

 

Schedule:

Tours operate 7 days a week and include late evening sunset trips.  The busiest season is Memorial Day to Labor Day, but we operate regularly from March – Nov.  This could be considered a full time job/seasonal job. Part time work may be available.

Compensation/Benefits:

Starting pay for this position is $20/hour plus tips, then increase after trial period commensurate with experience. All employees can have full use of kayaks and gear/extra seats on boat tours when available

Kayak Guide / Naturalist

We are seeking a part-time kayak guide to lead eco-tours through the scenic salt marshes surrounding Folly Beach, and elsewhere in the Charleston area. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the natural environment, experience kayaking in tidal areas, and a knack for engaging with both adults and children. This is a part-time, seasonal role for the 2025 season.

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Participate in training and complete an observed evaluation with a senior guide before leading solo tours.
  • Greet and check in guests before tours.
  • Unload, prepare, and clean kayaks; reload kayaks onto the trailer after each trip.
  • Lead educational and engaging eco-tours
  • Set up simple meals for food tours when required.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and ensure a memorable experience for guests.

 

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Experience kayaking in tidal areas.
  • CPR/First Aid/Lifeguard certification (recertification may be provided if necessary).
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs and perform physical tasks associated with kayaking.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Strong public speaking and interpersonal skills.
  • Dependable, professional, and able to stay calm under pressure (e.g., during inclement weather).
  • Experience towing a kayak trailer.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of local ecology and coastal ecosystems.
  • Background in biology, environmental science, or related fields (degree or hands-on experience).
  • Experience working with school groups or youth programs.

Office Assistant

The shop assistant will be the first line of contact for many clients.  Duties include but are not limited to booking clients, taking payments, responding to emails/texts, answering the phone, advertising, and interacting with guests who stop by our mobile office and retail shop.  This job can be fast paced at times, but is usually a very relaxed and fun customer service position.

Job Responsibilities: 

– Booking clients on tours via telephone and in person

– Handling payments

– Responding to emails and text inquiries

– Scheduling

– Maintaining the retail shop (products and cleanliness)

– Responding to reviews

– Social Media

– Assisting with other special projects (may include advertising, boat work, etc.)

Qualifications:

– Great attitude, enjoys working with people

– Basic understanding of computer software/able to learn our booking system

– Communication and customer service skills

– General excitement of nature is a plus!

 

Schedule:

We are open 7 days a week. There is flexibility on hours. The busiest season is Memorial Day to Labor Day, but we operate regularly from March – Nov.  This is a part time/seasonal job. The retail shop is often open in the evening, so ability to work some evenings is a must.

Compensation/Benefits:

Starting pay for this position is $13-15/hour plus tips, commensurate with experience. All employees can have full use of kayaks and gear/extra seats on boat tours when available
