We have several boats that can hold 5, 12, and 18 people. There can be no exceptions to this. No matter how small they are, children count as a person.
-
We leave from the Sunset Cay Marina, 66 W. 9th St. Ext., Folly Beach. You can find directions at the bottom of this page.
-
No, but there is one at the marina. On the water, we use the “loo with a view!”
-
We operate rain or shine. Don’t be alarmed by the forecast that almost always has a chance of rain in the summer. Fortunately, the “Folly Bubble” usually holds strong and light rains only last a few minutes.
-
Please plan to be at the dock 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time. Keep in mind that traffic can be very unpredictable and congested coming onto the island on summer weekends and plan accordingly (give yourself at least 30 extra minutes). If you get to the beach early, check out the local coffee shop and beach shops!
-
Infants under 1 are $5, and children under 12 have a reduced rate. We provide lifejackets for children 12 and under, or you may bring your own if you prefer.
-
We do. Please call for group rates and custom trip pricing. One boat holds 12 and the other 18 people. If your group is larger, let us know and we will secure a another boat to take out your whole party!
-
Yes, tours are BYOB, and you are welcome to bring a cooler. Please, no glass or red wine on the boat. Note that there is no trash can on the boat!
-
Tipping is not required, but as in any service industry, it is appreciated for a job well done. How much is up to you; it’s a similar rule of thumb as any other tipping situation.
-
From Center St. (heading onto Folly Beach, towards the ocean), turn right at the stoplight onto W. Ashley Ave. Go down 9 blocks and turn right on the 9th block. Follow the road to the left; there will be a sign that says “marina.” Park in the lot to the right and proceed across the footbridge over the marsh towards the water. You will see a gravel/dirt road to the right, and continue down it towards the dark green marina building. We meet you up by the picnic tables!
-
Dogs are not allowed on public tours to ensure the comfort of all guests on board the boat. Dog can be welcomed on private trips on a case by case basis and must comply with local leash regulations. Please call with questions.
Not so Frequently but still Asked Questions
-
No. Dolphins are wild animals and while we cannot guarantee sightings, we do see dolphins on most every trip. We do not give refunds for limited dolphin sightings.
Refunds are not provided if the day is cloudy or the sunset is obscured by clouds. We cannot control the weather. If we must return to the dock early due to weather you will receive a refund proportional to how early the boat returned.
-
We do our best to keeps folks dry, but when the wind picks up it’s hard to prevent splashing. It’s best to come prepared knowing there’s always the chance of getting a tad wet (it’s boating after all!). We cannot be responsible for damage to phones/cameras etc. due to splashing or rain.
-
Unfortunately no. The boat capacities are set by the US Coast Guard and children, including infants, count towards our total guest count. If you have a large group please contact us as we can often bring out more than one boat to accommodate your group!
-
Not very often. Occasionally we see a bonnethead shark hunting in the shallows at a low tide, but this is definitely a special occasion occurrence!
-
No. We prefer to keep bachelorette parties (and any groups looking for a party!) private. Our normal 2 hour trips are not “party” trips and we like to let folks looking for that celebrate however they’d like, while letting our ecotours be family friendly trips.
We have had issues in the past with party groups choosing to ignore this and showing up to crowded public trips expecting to dance, drink, and with accessories inappropriate for a young crowd. While we love all of this when it’s just us, it’s not well received otherwise. Please note that if you choose to show up anyways you may be denied boarding or charged in full for a private trip while we find you a different boat.
-
Please email or call us! We love questions and want to be sure you are prepared and on the best trip for your group’s needs and desires 🙂
Cancellation Policy
Bookings on a public trip cancelled prior to 24 out will be given a full refund. Cancellations, including no shows, within 24 hrs of departure are non-refundable. Private and specialty trips are non refundable within 1 week of departure.
Non private trips are welcome to reschedule at no charge up to 24 hours prior.
Customers will receive a full refund in case of operator cancellation due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. We cancel for high winds and lightning, and will still operate in light rain. As conditions change rapidly here the weather will be monitored until just before pre-trip before cancelling. In the case of well predicted bad weather (although truthfully that’s a bit of an anomaly around here!) we will contact you as soon as possible. Contact by phone to cancel or inquire about a cancellation. Yes, in summer every day has a chance of rain. Please don’t worry about this when booking as it’s usually a 20 min storm that won’t affect our trip!
**If you are late we will hold the boat for 10 minutes, but need to continue as close to schedule as possible for other guests on board. We can’t always stay out past the allotted time for lateness. Please be aware of traffic, especially on weekends. Please call as soon as you realize you may be late to discuss options.**
